The heart of electric guitar tone: Pickups

Guitar pickups are small pieces of hardware with an enormous influence on the voice of an electric guitar. Even subtle changes in magnet type, coil geometry, or winding approach can completely reshape how an instrument speaks — from tight and articulate to wide, airy, or thick with midrange authority. Swap the pickup, and you’re not just adjusting tone; you’re changing the guitar’s entire personality and feel. This is exactly why we’ve chosen TV Jones pickups: they deliver the clarity, character, and dynamic response that let the true voice of our guitars come alive.

TV-HT™ Guitar Pickup

The TV‑HT is TV Jones’ interpretation of the classic Gretsch HiLo’Tron — a single‑coil built in the spirit of the original but voiced with a touch more output in the bridge. That extra push gives the pickup greater authority and clarity, addressing what many players wished the vintage HiLo’Trons delivered. And when both pickups are engaged, they’re engineered to run hum‑cancelling for a quieter, more focused middle position.

Tone/Characteristics

Twangy, clanky single-coil goodness with a touch of natural midrange. The TV-HT is designed to produce twangy bass and crisp highs perfect for that old school sound, but also surprisingly cool with a lot of gain (due to its low output and translucent clarity). If you are a player who likes it crystal clear with a nice'n tight bass response (even more so than the TV Classic and Magna'Tron) - these are for you.

TVJones Classic Pickup

The TV Classic delivers the unmistakable twang and growl of a late‑’50s Filter’Tron. Based on a meticulously analyzed 1959 “Pat. Applied For” original, it’s TV Jones’ most versatile and widely loved pickup — a go‑to choice for players across genres. Its reputation spans from John Mayer to Brian Setzer, cementing it as a modern classic with true vintage character.

Tone/Characteristics

Between a typical Fender (bright single-coil) & Gibson (darker & thick humbucker) with a unique growl when you dig in. Clean, compressed treble and mids breathe life over a tight and controlled low-end.

Output/Power

DC Resistance is not entirely an indicator of true pickup output, although it can be helpful.

T-90™ Guitar Pickup

The T‑90 is TV Jones’ take on the classic P‑90, blending its familiar character with the added sparkle and clarity that define the TV Jones sound. The result is a full, fat voice with clear, articulate overtones that stay open and transparent.

Tone/Characteristics

The bridge pickup has thicker highs and more defined lows than what is commonly heard from traditional P-90s. They use Filter'Tron pole screws and wider pole-to-pole spacing on the bridge pickup. This provides more inductance for a thicker tone and plenty of dynamics. The neck pickup has good clarity and warmth - considerably less boomy than traditional P-90s.

Output/Power/Position

DC Resistance is not entirely an indicator of true pickup output, although it can be helpful.
